Raising the awareness of the responsibilities of a digital citizen
We share different things in our personal accounts, such as photos, videos, comments and more. As digital citizens, we are also able to use information technology to disseminate and obtain the information we require.
We share many things in our personal accounts, such as photos, videos, comments and more. As digital citizens, we are also able to use information technology to disseminate and obtain the information we require. However, do we actually check the reliability and accuracy of the information we find on social media? Do we conduct any research before we share any content? Having numerous followers or having a high amount of shares doesn't vouch for the veracity of the information. We do not always consider whether the information contains any misleading notions or whether it's intended to exploit our personal information. It is the mission of the digital citizen to examine every piece of information through a critical lens before they decide to share it or not. Sharing information that has not been critically analyzed or from unverifiable sources can have numerous consequences, both overt and covert. As such, it is the responsibility of the digital citizen to advocate the critical thinking and careful use of social media content.
